Our company began installing electro-magnetic bell conversions and clock mechanisms for churches in 1998 and has pioneered pew heating in the UK since 2010. Our unique patented heated seat set (Patent EP2451317 is only a partial description of the set) provides hassle-free, centrally managed pew heating with the possibility of switching on or off individual pews. Because the heating control happens remotely, usually from the vestry or sacristy, it fulfils essential requirements of insurance companies by automatically shutting itself down after 2 hours. This function allows us to safely install the heating system in churches of any size. For example, we have installations in the UK in 500+ seat capacity churches which can be heated with one click. Also, zones can be created so only the necessary zones are in use for energy saving. This is a 230V system which avoids using transformers. The system is robust and maintenance free.
While the primary heat intake happens when a person sits down on the seat, the secondary effect is that the seats are always readily warm - no 15 min heat up time needed, which means a ' heat bubble’ is created around the pews. According to our measurements, the air temperature can be raised by 4 to 5 C around the pews, which has a significant effect in a church environment.
This innovative system utilizes expensive heating more effectively than other available systems.
A typical rural church has 50 metres of pew seating (enough for around 100 people) and the running cost for the pew heating system is 80 pence per hour on average. Because of this low power requirement, the good news is:
A single phase electricity supply is enough for a medium sized church (150m of pews/300 people) with plenty of reserves for other appliances so no need for a supply upgrade!
Our prices include a complete service from design to installation:
1. Preparing the necessary drawings for the DAC application and consultation with diocese offices regarding the installation design.
2. Providing and installing the heated seat set.
3. Complete electrical works/cable management and system testing with certification by one of our trained UK NICEIC or NAPIT approved electrical contractors.
The electrical heating element is fixed to the seating surface of the pew and comes with a range of coloured covers to coordinate with the colour scheme in the church. The pew immediately begins to feel warm after the heating appliance is switched on.
The big advantage of this system is that the heating element is not a resistant spiral wire woven into textile fabric as is the case of the classic pew cushions. Instead the heating element has a special layer which is conductive over the whole layer and this means the heat is even.
The life time of such a system is practically unlimited. The pews are divided into sections and it is also possible to switch them on separately when required. The output can be controlled by the thermo regulator to adjust the desired temperature of the seats.
It is also possible to implement the same heating system in areas such as seats for younger children, acolytes or altar servers, the choir, the organ seat, the sacristy, the pulpit or even a particular section of the floor in front of the altar.
Extensive and detailed tests have confirmed that the system provides enough warmth for the people sitting in the pews. The heated seats replace the body heat which is lost in a cold environment. This system is the most effective method of church heating since the churchgoers are heated not the air.
Also, we can offer different heating solutions for no pew areas.
